www.Time.com ran an article here covering the mid-term elections, the probabilities and seats available, and the possible reprecussions of the election.

This is all important for several reasons, not the least of which is that the president has basically declared has has unlimited power and doesn't have to follow the law. But how can he get away with this, you ask? Simple; because congress, which is charged with holding the executive branch responsible for their actions, is controlled by the same party the president belongs to. They won't do anything to keep his actions in-check because they are working together.

The mid-term elections could change all that, though.

Time reports the following:

"In recent weeks, a startling realization has begun to take hold: if the elections were held today, top strategists of both parties say privately, the Republicans would probably lose the 15 seats they need to keep control of the House of Representatives and could come within a seat or two of losing the Senate as well. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who masterminded the 1994 elections that brought Republicans to power on promises of revolutionizing the way Washington is run, told Time that his party has so bungled the job of governing that the best campaign slogan for Democrats today could be boiled down to just two words: "Had enough?"

Exactly! That would be the perfect compaign slogan if elections were today; unfortunately, the republican party has about 6 more months to bail themselves out. What is really interesting about the elections will be, considering how low bush's approval rating is, how much will republican candidates want to assiciate themselves with him? Considering all the situations he's bungled so far this term( Hurricane Katrina's non-existant response, the Vallory Plame revelation scandal which is still in trial, the occupation in Iraq, DICK cheney shooting someone in the face, Guantanimo Bay, the secret Black Site prisons, illegal wiretapping, the staging of questions before a "Live" pressconference), just to name a few off the top of my head. I don't think they have much of a choice for two reasons: one, they've already hitched their wagon to him, supporting everything he has done and continuing to do so even now in the face of public outcry, and, as the times put it:

If Diet Coke criticizes Coke, people buy Pepsi, not Diet Coke,"

True, true. If they risk criticizing bush, then all they accomplish is helping democrats get elected. But these are the seeds they sowed when they took over both congressional branches and threw their full suppport behind bush in his attempt the change the course of history. Now, they have to reap those seeds.

Here's a Thought... If you're tired of the way things are going in this country; if you are opposed to having your rights stolen from you by that thief in the night, bush's administration; if you want life in america to swing back on track and in a positive direction; and if you want the president to be held accountable for his illegal and deadly actions, there is a simple solution.
